Don’t use my name in activities against Gov’t of Rwanda”, Kizito Request to Opposition

Kizito Mihigo

Rwanda’s famous artist Kizito Mihigo who is serving the 10 year sentence has requested politicians and other people whose views are against the Government of Rwanda not to use the name Kizito Mihigo their activities against the Government of Rwanda, “Because those actions are not in line with Kizito commitment and activities of his foundation”.

Through the press statement seen by this website, Alice Uwimana, the Secretary General of KMP Foundation said “At the request of singer Kizito Mihigo, the Founder of our Organization, we are requesting political organization and politicians not to use the name “Kizito Mihigo” in activities against the Government of Rwanda, because those actions are not in line with Kizito commitment and activities of his Foundation”

The Foundation was named after its founder, Kizito Mihigo, a Rwandan catholic musician, genocide survivor, who chose to fully consecrate his life and his work to forgiveness and reconciliation.

The mission of KMP is therefore to use art (music, poems, drama etc.) in the service of those peace building activities initiated by Kizito Mihigo, according to remarks available on the Foundation’s website

KMP obtained the legal status on April, the 8th 2011 by The Ministerial order No 51/08.11 that was published in the Official Gazette No 8 of January, the 20th 2012.

The Press release continues: “Kizito is not a politician. He is not part of any political movement and does not aspire any political position.”

When he was arrested in 2014, some people were heard saying that Kizito was at the time trying to manipulate youth in Rwanda.

Some even said Kizito wanted to be a Minister for Youth.

“Even though the KMP Foundation has temporarily ceased its activities due to the current situation of our founder, we remain hopeful that one Day Kizito will return.” Reads a part of the Press release.

The statement added that Kizito one day he will continue singing for the Rwandans and sharing message of forgiveness, reconciliation and Peace “that has been always his mission after the Genocide against Tutsis, which made him an orphan.”
