Nyaruguru launches Mudasomwa Pico Hydro Power Plant construction

The District of Nyaruguru and its partners have launched activities of constructing Mudasomwa Pico Hydro Power Plant which has a capacity of 34 KW.

The event took place on 31st July 2018 in Nyaruguru district, Ruheru sector in Remera cell.

Once completed the plant will supply power to 260 households, 6 bars and restaurants, 6 grocery shops, 3 cassava mills, 1 welding house,

During the launch, Hakuzwumuremyi Victor, the Program Manager, said that electricity demand includes strategies to create awareness of energy for business-related activities among potential users.

In this regard, he adds, “Energy 4 Impact has recruited potential productive users at Mudasomwa site to receive business mentorship support, some of the recruited business include, welding, tailoring, millings, carpentry and barbershop.

Jean Marie Robert Mugwaneza, The president of UMUCYO Cooperative, promised that the cooperative members are willing to pay their shares of 7% on time, and he pointed out that even those who find it hard to pay have been given jobs to the construction site and part of the daily wages goes to the cooperative as part of their contribution.

GashemaJanvier, The Vice mayor Economic Affairs in Nyaruguru District, thanked E4I initiative and promised full collaboration with the District and urged the population to take advantages of the electricity to improve their living conditions.

He also thanked the population for their courageous participation in the construction activities and their will to pay some part of the project with their 7% contribution.

Mungwakuzwe Yves, Chairman of the District Council, encouraged the population of Remera cell to take ownership of the site and keep well their shares because in the near future when they start sharing profit, other investors may want to invest in by buying shares as well.
