Amb. Mujawamariya Urges Moscow To Encourage Russian Private Investment Into Africa

Africa calls on the Russian government to encourage the country's private investment into the continent, Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya, the ambassador of Rwanda to Russia, said on Monday

Africa calls on the Russian government to encourage the country’s private investment into the continent, Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, the ambassador of Rwanda to Russia, said on Monday.

“We urge the government of the Russian Federation, our host, to take another step further and encourage the Russian private sector to go to Africa as the continent of investment, as the continent of our future, because the future belongs to Africa, but the future belongs to Africa with the Russian Federation,” Mujawamariya said during a panel session at the Russian-African Social Forum in Moscow.

She added that Africa was taking measures to demonstrate it was genuine in its strive for partnership, and to prepare grounds for the investment.

“We are making our Africa open for investment and I want to inform our friends that if you are making friendship with Africa, you are sure that there is no hidden agenda in your friendship with Africa. So let us have a friendship between Africa and the Russian Federation without worrying,” Mujawamariya said.

The ambassador also noted that Russia could help African countries through educating the continent’s students in technical and polytechnic institutes.

“We need Russian universities to continue to help us by accepting our students. We need Russian universities to train hands-on skilled citizens of Africa. We wish to see another step in our relations for what is concerning education. We need the Russian Federation to open technical schools and polytechnic institutions for African students,” Mujawamariya said.

She explained that African universities were preparing engineers but they needed technicians as well.

“The partnership between Russia and Africa is a partnership that shall benefit both …We will continue a win-win partnership built on a solid foundation, and we will build a joint future of prosperity and peace on the African continent,” Mujawamariya said.

The first Russian-African Social Forum takes place in the Russian capital on Monday. The aim of the forum is to develop cooperation between Russia and African countries in such areas as investment, health care, education and ecology.
