The Rwanda Youth in Agriculture Forum (RYAF) has launched the five year program of planting 100 million fruits trees across the country.

The official launch took place on Saturday 8thDecember 2018 in Nyarubaka Sector, Gitare cell in Kamonyi District, part of the southern Province of Rwanda.

The event was graced by various officials from the village level to the National level.

Speaking at the official launch of the program, the RYAF Chairman Jean Baptiste Hategekimana said “the program’s main objective is to increase the quantity of fruits for export as well as for family consumption.”

He added that the Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF)as a platform whose aim is to change and challenge the mind-set among the youth vis-à-vis the agriculture sector in Rwanda has committed to build on available and valuable opportunities starting from the policies and strategies to engage by creating sustainable businesses that produce and distribute planting materials that will reach to 100 million fruit trees in Rwanda over 5 years.

 The program will be implemented by youth entrepreneus grouped under the Inputs and Other Agro Services Clusters, whose businesses include making quality and enough inputs, equipments, distribution and farmers capacity development as to optimize the yield and thus satisfying the requests from other sides of agribusiness including the value addition and agro-processing.

On behalf of National Agriculture Export Board (NAEB), the NAEB Southern Province coordinator Nkurunziza Alex commended RYAF as an important contributor to the development of the National agriculture sector.

He said that in Rwanda there is a challenge of insufficient fruits for export adding that “the 100 million fruits trees to be planted will help the government to increase the export quantity.”

This website has learnt that Rwanda has a big market of avocadoes in Europe. However, the available export quantity is still less than the desired quantity.

Only in Gitare cell RYAF distributed 8000 Fruit trees composed of 4000 Avocados, 500 mangoes, 2000 Papaya and 1500 citrus.

The program targets to plant 100 Million Fruit Plants indifferent districts of Rwanda in 5 years where 15,000.000 fruit trees will be planted in first year, 25,000.000 in Second year, 35.000.000 in third year,15.000.000 in fourth year and 10.000.000 in fifth year.

“We need to encourage young generation to Plant fruit trees,for a sustainable business and development,” RYAF Chairman said.
