Kinyinya: Genocide committed against Tutsi whose Scars remain alive

It was this Saturday, April 13, 2019 in Kinyinya Sector Gasabo District, at the closing of the commemoration week of the Genocide committed against the Tutsis in 1994, an elderly woman also survivor of the Genocide was heard screaming “Imana Irababaye, Imana irababaye, Imana irababaye “translated to English” God is sad, God is sad, God is sad”.

Grief and trauma do not erase. They will endure even among generations to come, but what is important today is that this Genocide whose wounds are still alive “Will never happen Again.”

While crying “Imana Irababaye”, the whole room calms down, but we all know that “Rwandans still have the Genocide Scars whose” medicine is to stay together, work together and “help the survivors using whatever means even by visiting them, and pledging that what happened will never be Again ” as highlighted by the Executive Secretary of Kinyinya Sector Umuhoza Rwabukumba who was also the guest of honor at this event.

Kinyinya Sector is one of the sectors where many Tutsis were ferociously killed, some families were wiped out and a number of orphans are still facing the consequences.

Rwabukumba said so far “We have recorded over 400 names of Tutsis killed during the Genocide in Kinyinya (Only Gasharu, Murama, Binunga, Kami, Rwankuba) and the number is expected to increase because those names do not include names of Children that we are yet to establish.”

However she urged residents to be strong and commit to Never Again to Genocide and calls them to always visit the Kinyinya Genocide Museum in order to learn from the Genocide History and move on despite wounds but have to move on as part of “Kwibuka Twiyubaka”.
