Sudanese Ambassadors in Rwanda, other countries sacked

Sudan’s military council sacks diplomats

Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC) decided on Monday to sack six ambassadors and consuls as part of its review of the country’s diplomatic representation abroad, Anadolu has reported.

“The TMC issued a number of important decisions and constitutional decrees concerning restructuring of the state bodies, including relieving a number of ambassadors of their duties,” said a formal TMC statement. Those affected by the move are the Sudanese ambassadors in Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Thailand and Rwanda, as well as the consuls in Miami, Florida, and the Egyptian city of Aswan.

The military council has also fired the director of the Presidential Airlines, Brigadier General Ibrahim Al-Khader, as part of its counter-corruption measures. Dealings in foreign currency and export revenues in the Central Bank of Sudan are going to be under review, it was decided during Monday’s meeting.

On 11 April, the Sudanese army ousted President Omar Al-Bashir after three decades in office following popular protests which began in December last year. A military council has been running the country despite calls for it to hand over state institutions to a civil government.
