Kwibuka25: HDP trained and supported Survivors Associations in Rusizi and Nyamasheke

“Despite Rwanda’s tragic history of the Genocide committed against Tutsi, we have a responsibility of working hard to improve our socio-economic conditions for ourselves and again for the Nation while also committing to Never Again to Genocide.”

This is the main message from Health Development and Performance (HDP) delivered to the Genocide Survivors visited by HDP staff during this period of the commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of Genocide against Tutsi.

In line with the 25th Commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsi, HDP has held a fellowship and training on project development with the Genocide survivors grouped in Twiyubake Association based in Gashonga Sector of Rusizi District as well as the other group made of 23 Elderly survivors based in Bushekeri in Nyamashake District.

Apart from Fellowship and Training, HDP also handed over the financial supports to the above mentioned association as part of the continuous programs that intend to alleviate HDP beneficiaries from poverty.

On behalf of HDP Staff, Mr. Jean Claude Hassan Mpakaniye said “The overall purpose of this annual commemoration is to continuously awaken greater awareness of the Rwandan peoples about the value of life and humanity, and to renew our collective commitment to protect and uphold fundamental human rights.”

Mpakaniye added that during this year’s commemoration activities HDP has decided to join Genocide survivors in Rusizi and Nyamasheke where they trained them with the objective of equipping them with the management skills in their associations while at the same time discussing on where they should put emphasis to improve their living conditions.

As part of Kwibuka25 also HDP provided another additional financial support to Gikomero Sector of Gasabo District as part of the contribution to the Construction of a Genocide Monument which will be constructed in Gikomero Sector which will serve as the sector’s  Historical monument of the 1994 Genocide Against Tutsi

“HDP will continue to stand with Genocide survivors and supporting them.” Mpakaniye said.

“We are really happy that our beneficiaries living conditions have greatly improved and we want to enable them and support them towards sustainable self-reliance.” He added.

This is the fifth times HDP supporting vulnerable Genocide Survivors families.

Last year, HDP supported vulnerable families who live in Rudakabukirwa Genocide Survivors village (Gikomero) by connecting their houses to the Electricity line.

The same year also HDP visited the Rutunga genocide memorial center to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi as a yearly event.

Both Locals who benefit from HDP support and local administration commended HDP activities noting that “Not only comforting with the Genocide Survivors but also contributes to the betterment of their lives.”
