Plymouth: Rwandans and Friends of Rwanda Honor Victims of the Genocide against Tutsi
Rwandan community living in Plymouth City in the United Kingdom (UK) have been joined by the friends of Rwanda to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide Against Tutsi during which over a million Rwandans were killed.
The 1994 Genocide in Rwanda targeted Tutsi Ethnics and moderate Hutu Ethnics who opposed the Genocidal regime whose plan were to eliminate Tutsis in that Central African Country.
The war which put an end to the Genocide was led by the then Rwanda Patriotic Army under the command of Rwanda’s Current President Paul Kagame.
The Commemoration which took place on 18th May 2019 in Plymouth City was organized by Reverend Osee NTAVUKA, a Rwandan national who lives in Plymouth.
The event was attended by other officials including The Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Richard Ball, Honourable MP Luke Pollard, Bishop of Plymouth Rt Rev’d Nick McKinnel, Councillor Mr Kevin Ball Devon and First Secretary of Rwanda High Commissioner in the UK Mr James Uwizeye among many others.
The Commemoration event was marked by the speeches delivered by the representatives of Rwanda, Plymouth leaders as well as the message from All Nations Ministries Church headed by Reverend Osee NTAVUKA.
Before the Church service, participants laid flowers on the Genocide Memorial in Plymouth which was also constructed by Ntavuka after being given permission by officials in the city as well as joined in Walk to Remember as they were heading to Church.
At the event, all speeches centered on Rwanda’s reconstruction process as well as the commitment as enshrined in the 25th commemoration theme which is “Remember, Unite and Renew.”
