RUB celebrates International Youth Day in Nyamagabe (PHOTOS)

Members of the Rwanda Union of the Blind (RUB) have joined residents in the Southern Province to celebrate the International Youth Day which was held in Cyanika Sector, Nyamagabe District.

The celebration which took place on 10th August, 2019, was observed at the National level in Nyamagabe     and it was coincided with the launch of the school construction in Cyanika Sector and the official closing of notary week.

The day was marked by various activities which include community work, songs and drama plays performed by young boys and girls, Entrepreneurship testimony and speeches from various officials who were present.

Residents were astonished by the song played by Mwitende Alexandre who has visual impairment, a song whose message is about youth and quality education and special thanks to Rwandan President for his role in good governance and inclusive quality education.

During his speech, the Southern Province Governor, Emmanuel Gasana congratulated youth for the message delivered through their plays and songs adding that “all the messages delivered through various formats whether is in drama, music or poem show that Rwanda is a country that has a vision and what we are doing today is finding solutions to our own challenges.”

He added that the eight rooms that will be constructed in Cyanika will be an area where children will have quality education.

The International youth Day in Rwanda was celebrated under the theme “Transforming education”, to highlight efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.

It is rooted in Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which is to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”

In an Interview with TOPAFRICANEWS.COM on behalf of RUB Team, Nshimyumuremyi Mathusalem explained that RUB being an organization that is fighting for healthy living of people with visual impairment, it also enable the youth members to play their active role in the community.

“We have also other team of the youth that are celebrating this day in other districts of the country. So coming here in Nyamagabe is an opportunity to transmit the message on our ability despite being visually impaired.” Nshimyumuremyi said.

Taking into consideration on this Year Youth Day theme on Education, Nshimyumuremyi recalls that there are still some challenges for the youth with visual impairment where they are still traveling long distances for education services.

“We want to call upon the Ministries in charge to find the solution on that problem so that those groups of people can study in the nearby schools.”

In the meantime, people with various disabilities have special needs in terms of equipment and other services meant for them.

In Rwanda, the numbers of the schools that can afford such services to people with disabilities obviously are still few and that may be the cause behind the reason why people with disabilities are enrolled in the schools that are equipped on the standard level that responds to their needs.

However, the Government always plays the tireless effort to ensure that education is inclusive so that none left behind to have access to education.
