Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister in Tanzania for EAC Business Summit

Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers is in Tanzania for a High Level East African Business & Investment Summit taking place in Arusha from 28 to 29 November 2019.

On behalf of President Paul Kagame, Chairperson of EAC Heads of State Summit, Minister Dr. Vincent Biruta said “The holding of this East African Business and Investment Summit is timely, as our discussions will focus on how to unlock the bottlenecks to regional trade and investment, and identify actions to achieve this goal.”

He added that “This is also an opportune time for the East African Business Council to support the process of integrating the region economically into the continent, through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, which will officially start on July 1st 2020.”

The East African Business & Investment Summit aims to undertake an audit of achievements, impediments, prospects of the EAC regional integration process in light of the Customs Union, Common Market Protocol, and Monetary Union, and global and continental developments.

The summit will come up with recommendations to be submitted to the EAC Council of Ministers for Directives aimed at turning policy into practice in a bid to facilitate and increase cross border & Foreign Direct Investments in the EAC and improve intra-EAC trade and exports outside the region.
