Kigali-Rwanda, 1st June, 2020: AGL-PROVINCE: One of the key activities of the Salesian Planning and Development Office (PDO) for Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda, is to do advocacy for vulnerable families as well as for the effective Education of Young People in the region.

When COVID 19 broken out in Rwanda which was the first East African Country to announce first cases of COVID 19, a team of Salesians and their cooperators led by Brother Hubert Twagirayezu, the Director of Planning and Development Office, has IMMEDIATELY responded with various advocacy programs for all families who might face the negative effects of the pandemic on their living conditions.

There were and still are benefactors who responded and donated themselves to the Salesians’s call in order to make vulnerable families cope with the pandemic’s impacts.

Among them the office advocated for Teachers and general employees in  Salesian Schools and formation centres since Salesian’s schools can’t afford payment of the monthly salaries especially to the teachers as we all are aware that schools are closed until September and for that reason of closure no school fees that are being paid so salaries can be available.

Fortunately, when the Salesian risen their advocacy voice through PDO for especially teachers, Peter Bohm from Handwerk Hilft, a Germany based organization responded with open hands so that teachers in Salesian schools in Rwanda are not suffering from the many impacts of COVID 19.

Now there Teachers are sure they will cope with the COVID 19, thanks to this    Germany based benefactor who agreed to donate to them and do whatever possible to cater for their food until September.

Salesians hope that with God’s help, Not only Peter and Handwerk Hilft but also many more benefactors, will keep more on the Salesians mission in Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi.

Salesians of Don Bosco always thank the benefactors; the list is long, and others who have not left vulnerable groups of communities alone during the COVID 19 pandemic time despite challenging moment in their respective countries.
