Rwanda: 700 to attend National Prayer Breakfast

700 top government leaders and members of the civil society and the private sector will attend Sunday’s national prayer breakfast.

Sunday Timesunderstands that about 30 international guests from other countries will take part in the 23rd edition of the annual special prayer breakfast that will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre.

Organised by the Rwanda Leaders Fellowship (RLF), the prayer meeting usually brings together leaders in top positions for fellowship around a breakfast, to reflect on the milestones that the nation has achieved praying for the nation and its leaders.

President Paul Kagame is expected to attend the event, where top leaders of the nation will take time to thank God for the previous year and pray for the nation and the leaders for the new year, that just begun.

During the gathering, participants also share the Word of God not only to revive their faith but also to instill Godly values in their leadership.

The national prayer breakfast was first held on September 1, 1995, and has since attracted leaders from different spheres of national life.

The prayer breakfast is customarily preceded by the Young leaders’ conference, which was held on December 23, 2018.

The organisers, Rwanda Leaders Fellowship say, the forum is derived from the belief and conviction that leadership and specifically good leadership come from God; who molds the character of leadership hence the slogan of the forum; “Instilling Godly Values in Leadership”.

This time, the national prayer breakfast will be held under the theme; “Transformative Leadership”.

According to Pastor Hassan Kibirango, a renowned Motivational Speaker and Pastor at Christian Life Assembly, Nyarutarama, and the national prayer breakfast is an opportune moment for the country to reflect on the progress made and pay homage to the power above for enabling leaders to play stewards.

“Rwanda is largely a faith-based nation even though the state does not necessarily affiliate itself to any faith because they serve all Rwandans irrespective of their faith,” Kibirango said, also reaffirming the fact that the national prayer breakfast is the intersection of faith and leadership.

“Looking back at Rwanda 25 years ago, it has made tremendous strides to rebuild and we largely attribute it to God empowering Rwandans to do so. So the prayer breakfast allows us to give thanks to God for the immeasurable blessings He has bestowed upon us as a nation,” he added.
