Regional States, International Community congratulate Burundi New Elect President Major General (Rtd) Evariste Ndayishimiye

Regional countries have congratulated the President-Elect of the Republic of Burundi Major General (Rtd) Evariste Ndayishimiye.
Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya sent congratulatory messages to Major General (Rtd) Evariste Ndayishimiye who won the disputed elections which was held last month.
On Saturday, Rwanda sent a message of Congratulations via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two brother countries.
Burundi’s current President Pierre Nkurunziza who is expected to officially hand over the Power to the new President has been in bad relations with neighbouring Rwanda until recently.
It is not clear if the two countries have renewed their ties and probably seeking the way to renew political relations between the two countries.
In a message that was sent to Burundi, Rwandan Government congratulates the New elect President and expresses the will to renew the historical relations which existed between the two brother countries.
Also President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Tanzania’s Pombe Magufuri sent their message to President Nayishimiye.
In his message, President Kenyatta also congratulated the ruling CNDD-FDD Party for the emphatic win.
“On behalf of the people of Kenya, I congratulate the People of Burundi and the National Council for the Defense of Democracy–Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD–FDD) Party under Your Excellency Major General (Rt) Evariste Ndayishimiye leadership for winning the Presidential elections held on 20th May 2020,” President Kenyatta wrote.
“During this historic moment, we believe that it’s time to unite the Republic of Burundi and move forward, underpinned by the interests of the people and nationhood,” he added.
The Head of State assured the new Burundi leader of Kenya’s continued support of his country as a true and valued development partner.
In turn, President Nayishimiye has earlier this week lauded President Museveni of Uganda for his tireless support to the people of Burundi and his contribution to the peace and Stability in the region.
Apart from regional countries also the International organisations such as the International Organization of French speaking countries (OIF) currently under leadership of Rwanda’s Former Minister of International Relations, Louise Mushikiwabo, has also congratulated the peaceful elections in this French speaking country and promised a continuous support with the new President.
International Community recognise the Burundian Elections

The Francophonie congratulates Burundi on the election of President Evariste Ndayishimiye, and expresses the hope that cooperation between Burundi and the OIF will deepen for the benefit of the Burundian people and the populations of the French-speaking world.
The US Government has also congratulated the Burundian people for the historical peaceful elections.
State’s Statement released on June, 5th 2020 read as follows:
The United States acknowledges the Burundian Constitutional Court’s certification of Evariste Ndayishimiye as the next President of Burundi. We encourage the new government to include a broad representation of political stakeholders. As steadfast supporters of democracy, we call on the government to address reports of electoral fraud and investigate and pursue accountability for all allegations of voter intimidation before, during, and after the elections. We also urge the release of any authorized party representatives and other election observers who were unjustly detained or arrested for engaging in election observation activities, including possessing voting information after polling stations closed, to promote electoral transparency. A swift resolution, in accordance with existing laws and procedures, will help reassure the Burundian people of the new government’s commitment to strengthen respect for the rule of law and allow all its citizens to participate fully and equally in the electoral process.
The United States salutes the people of Burundi for their resolve for a peaceful transfer of power. We also recognize outgoing President Pierre Nkurunziza’s commitment to a peaceful transition. Should it occur, this will be a historic moment for the people of Burundi, as it will represent the first time in Burundi’s modern history that a government came into power peacefully and also peacefully transitioned to a new president-elect. The United States looks forward to working with President-elect Ndayishimiye and the new government to strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions, improve citizen-responsive governance, promote prosperity, and safeguard regional and global security.
In the meantime the main opposition candidate in the just concluded Burundi elections is negotiating for soft landing after constitutional court upheld election of Evariste Ndayishimiye as president.
Opposition leader Agathon Rwasa has earlier said: “We are going to see how we can negotiate with the government because this decision shouldn’t be the cause of bloodshed in the country.”
At the same time, Mr Rwasa has hinted at seeking redress at the East African Court of Justice in Arusha, Tanzania.
Mr Rwasa sought constitutional court intervention to annul the election, saying it was marred by irregularities.
