REB and USAID Soma Umenye struggle to deliver Reading Materials to rural schools

TOP AFRICA NEWS Editorial

The struggle for education is a struggle that aims to ensure that every child has the same access to quality education irrespective where they are.

Although there are always some who go to good schools and are well trained while others are unable to get the necessary tools to help them learn better, it is a paramount to struggle in whichever way to minimize the education gap between Children from Elite families and the ones from poor families.

Coming back to Rwanda Education Board (REB) and USAID Soma Umenye programme, they are some of the partners who work closely together to promote Reading Culture among Children and Adults.

The partners are working together to find books that help children read and all books are transported from Kigali to different parts of the country in order to reach out to children in their respective schools.

However, in some cases, delivering these books to the schools is a difficult battle mainly due to the poor road infrastructures.

In recent photos released by Stephen Blunden, the Chief of Party at Chemonics which supervises USAID Soma Umenye Rwanda project, it is clear that the process is not easy at all.

But because children have to be given equal opportunities, the problem of the narrow path does not prevent the work of delivering books to children.

So, it is good for parents to value the work that has been done and to help the children read the books they have been given because it comes from a lot of effort so not reading it seems like the energy used is wasted.

Reading is good because it broadens the mind of the Child and acquires enough knowledge that will help him to make a living.
