President Kagame, Louise Mushikiwabo, Charles Michel discuss Covid-19 vaccination

Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, has received the Secretary General of the Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo and the President of the Council of the European Union (EU), Charles Michel, on Sunday.

The leaders of the international community, accompanied by a doctor and Member of Parliament for the European Parliament, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, also visited the Mayange Health Center in Bugesera District to see how Covid-19 vaccination exercise is going on.

They were accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Vincent Biruta.

The officials said they visited Rwanda to support and advocate for the COVID19 vaccination program, presented by the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) in a program called Covax whose mission is to distribute the vaccin around the world.

“We, as Francophonie, do not vaccinate, but we are in an urgency because we have seen that it takes a long time for these vaccines to reach different countries,” said Louise Mushikiwabo.

Charles Michel also promises to sensitize the Europe’s manufactures to make more Covid-19 vaccines to be sent to Africa in the near future.

The Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije explained that the officials were shown how technology is helping to spread the vaccine and store the information of all immunizations in the computers.

More than 350,000 AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines have been distributed in Rwanda to a wide range of public sector workers, in order to protect them from the Covid-19 epidemic.
