IUCN to launch Flagship Report: Nature in a Globalised World: Conflict and Conservation

The International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is set to launch its first flagship report titled “Nature in a Globalised World: Conflict and Conservation.”, TOP AFRICA NEWS has learnt.

The report which will be launched on 28th April 2021, is the first issue of the IUCN Flagship report series Nature in a Globalised World.

The event will take place virtually.

In addition to representing the report and its key findings, several world leaders with unique experience issues related to conflict and conservation will discuss their experiences on the linkages between conflict and nature, as well as strategies and themes that should be considered when seeking to conserve nature and natural resources to promote peace.

The purpose of this report series is to help bring the importance of nature conservation into mainstream political and economic decision-making.

According to the event organizers, “This first report focuses on armed conflict and nature.”

The theme is highly timely as armed conflicts cause great human, economic and social harm, as well as environmental damage around the world.

Conflicts have stretched societies to their limits in terms of human and financial resources.

Lives and property have been lost and disrupted, livelihoods destroyed, and people displaced. Regrettably, policies to better manage and moderate pressures that drive armed conflicts have been unable to prevent their number from reaching what is now their highest level for 30 years.
