President Kagame says Rwanda, Burundi relations to get restored soon

Rwanda’s President Kagame has indicated that there are positive changes towards the normalization of the relations between Rwanda and Burundi.

President Kagame made the comment on Tuesday, 8th February 2022 during the swearing in ceremony of two ministers namely the Minister of Infrastructure, Dr Erneste Nsabimana and the Minister of State for Infrastructure Ms. Patricia Uwase

President KAGAME made the remarks following the Burundian delegation’s visit to Rwanda a few days ago.

Kagame said his Burundian Counterpart has shown the willingness towards the restoration of ties between two countries.

“I think that soon, relations between Burundians and Rwandans will be better than ever,” he said.

“Even though there were other security issues at the border in Kibira and Nyungwe Forests, some armed men crossed the border and attacked Rwanda, and we are in agreement with the Burundians on how to deal with the situation in order to get rid of it,” he said. ”

On Rwanda-Uganda relations, he said there were issues that led to the closure of the Gatuna border, but talks with President Museveni’s envoy, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, left it open.

President Kagame said that one of the reasons for the closure of the border was that Rwandans living in Uganda were being hunted down and accused of spying.

President Kagame said that Rwanda wants peace in the country and the region.
