General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno congratulates Paul Kagame for his leadership in reforming African Union

On this Friday, 18 March 2022 President Paul Kagame of Rwanda received H.E General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, Chairman of the Transitional Military Council & President of the Republic of Chad in Village Urugwiro in Kigali.

President Kagame welcomes General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno who is in Kigali for a two-day visit.

Speaking at the signing of General Cooperation Agreements that were witnessed by the two heads of States, General Mahamat said that he is particularly touched by the warmth of the brotherly welcome that his delegation and himself have received since their arrival in Kigali.

He also thanked President KAGAME, for the opportunity, that has been given to his delegation to discuss on various issues of common interests and recalled that Rwanda has always been very close to Tchad during difficult moments, particularly during the offensive of Boko Haram and also, during the tragic moments of April, last year.

“If our country is currently on the right path to peace and stability, it is also thanks to the solidarity of brothers and friends and you are one of those very close friends and brothers of that and on behalf of the Chadian people, I extend my sincere gratitude.

I also take this opportunity, Mr. President, to pay homage to the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. All countries have faced challenges. Your country has gone through the worst atrocities that humanity is capable of. We discovered today, a country is a beautiful country, which within a couple of decades has become a model for the entire world. “General Mahamat said

“Your country and my country have many similarities, cultural and others. Tchad will gain a lot in this transitional period to learn from the success of Rwanda. How It has become what it is. Thanks to you to your leadership. Mr. President, we wish to inspire ourselves from the Rwandan model.” He added

He congratulated President Paul Kagame, for his leadership as a Pan African and the leadership that he has led in reforming the African Union, through the African continental free trade area.

“Indeed, we have about 1000 students from Chad that have been welcomed by your institutes and universities in Rwanda as many other Africans. Africans have free access to Rwanda, without needing to pay for visas, and this model of South South cooperation, which we should all follow.” General Mahamat noted

“Mr. President, also wish to comment on this process that will lead to a signature of agreements between countries. And I would like to invite you to come and visit Tchad very soon. I wish to commit to a dynamic bilateral cooperation between our countries and today more than ever, both our countries and both our people need to work together to face common challenges. Our main challenge is development and the wellbeing of our population.” He added

Concluding his remarks, H.E General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, Chairman of the Transitional Military Council & President of the Republic of Chad said that Tchad is hopeful that RwandAir will be able to come and visit opportunities in Tchad.

“Mr. President once more, thank you very much for your availability and for the warm welcome since we touched the ground in Rwanda. I thank you very much.” Concludes General Mahamat
