Nyaruguru district is one of the mountainous districts in Rwanda.

Natives of this district can testify to its past that has been marked by demeaning names that people from other parts of the country were calling them due to the lack of development infrastructures such as roads and poverty.

As the Prime Minister of Rwanda Dr. Edouard Ngirente joined the people of Nyaruguru District to celebrate the 28th anniversary of Rwanda Liberation on the 4th July 2022, Ms. Martha Ntakirutimana, a resident of Nyaruguru District, testified that the people of Nyaruguru district have been considered the poorest of the poor until the Rwanda Patriotic Front took power and decided to change that narrative that have played a role in keeping the area in poverty.

Ms. Ntakirutimana in her own words told PM Ngirente: “Hon. Prime Minister, we used to hear about tarmac road and believed that such roads are only accessible for those who live in Kigali, and those who could go to Kigali came and told us about tarmac road that we felt it was impossible, but Now the road had reached Nyaruguru District, …”

“There is a lot to be thankful for, like me at home I have access to clean water and electricity. There are a lot of people with clean water and Electricity in the district and we believe that actions are clear today” Ms. Ntakirutimana Said.

In fact, what the citizen told the Prime Minister is obvious to anyone who has ever traveled to Nyaruguru District 10 years ago.
