Mrs. Laurence, ACTEC’s Entrepreneurship expert visits DON BOSCO MUHAZI TVET School

On August 17th, 2022, DON BOSCO MUHAZI TVET school hosted Madam Laurence Lievens from Belgium who is in Rwanda where she is coming to give an Entrepreneurship training course to teachers from the schools that are benefiting from the ACTEC support.

During this visit at DON BOSCO MUHAZI, Mrs. Laurence was accompanied by Father Bavumiragiye Raymond, Director of Don Bosco Muhazi, together with Mr. Uwarugira Dominique, the Project Officer/Planning and Development Office.

They were welcomed by the Educative community and the students who are attending the training organized through the ACTEC Project.

In December 2021, ACTEC announced the good news to the Salesians of Don Bosco of the Africa Great Lakes Province that the Belgian government has agreed to fund various projects that ACTEC will undertake for the year 2022-2026 and among those projects which are being funded by the Belgium Government through ACTEC, there are a capacity building project for Don Bosco Muhazi technical and vocational training school, Maison Shalom and FMA Technical school which is located in Gisenyi.

The project, which is now in its first year, has started to equip its beneficiaries, especially teachers with entrepreneurship skills that will enable them to nurture various talents among the young people.

In an interview with Madam Laurence Lievens shortly after visiting Don Bosco Muhazi, said that she is in Rwanda for ACTEC to teach teachers about entrepreneurship.

She said “We will work on Entrepreneurship and new pedagogical methods to reveal the talents of young people.”

 ACTEC is a Belgian NGO created in 1982 with the aim of strengthening the role and autonomy of disadvantaged people through learning a profession.

Throughout the five years, ACTEC project at DON BOSCO MUHAZI will include the construction of new classrooms and renovation of the existing classrooms, capacity building for trainers, Promotion of ICT, promotion of environmental and cultural Club, introduction of new modules to be launched at the center, state-of-the-art training equipment, student development and literacy, among other aspects that will be touched during the project implementation.

Mrs. Laurence commented that “DON BOSCO MUHAZI is a small centre but really dynamic. So, the welcome by the young and also the tour I did within the centre really shows the dynamism of the centre.”

Don Bosco Muhazi TVET School is the Salesian Technical and Vocational Education and Training Center which mostly offers education to the Disadvantaged Youth and those who have not had the opportunity to continue their secondary education due to Poverty.

The school is located in Gikomero sector in Gasabo District in the City of Kigali.
