Tobiko challenges civil society, youth at the Climate meet in Gabon
Libreville, Gabon, August 31,2022: Kenya’s environment and forestry cabinet secretary was the dulling of the civil society groups meeting in Libreville Gabon on Africa Climate Week where he challenged them to proactively engage governments on climate change negotiations and implementation of right policies.
Tobiko said the civil society groups have a role to play in building momentum towards a just world free from the threats of climate change.
“We must do what we can within the capacity of our capabilities and resources to ensure we achieve climate justice for all,” said Tobiko.
As part of a clear demonstration of accountability from the government, Tobiko emphasized the need to accept guidance from experts and other actors in sharing ideas and knowledge in the climate justice space.
Tobiko recognized the role of the youth in ensuring the health of the planet and urged the young people to be proactive in tackling the threats and effects of climate change, particularly in the negotiation processes.
The CSO delegation, coalesced under the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance shared with the Cabinet Secretary on the milestones registered so far in the Africa Climate Week.
According to Philip Kilonzo, Head of Policy, Advocacy and Communication at the PACJA, the delegation had released the Libreville communique, the launch of the Climate Justice Torch and firming up of the Faith Actors Plan for Advancing climate justice before and during the first two days of the Africa Climate Week.
