Geo Week Announces Call for Nominations for Excellence in the Geospatial Industry

Portland, Maine – USA, September 12, 2022 – Geo Week, the premier event that champions the coming together of geospatial technologies and the built world, is accepting nominations to celebrate excellence in the geospatial market. The 2023 Geo Week Awards Ceremony includes the LIDAR Leader Awards, Younger Geospatial Professional of the Year Award, and the ASPRS Awards, all of which honor the achievements of individuals and organizations working in geospatial technology. The ceremony will take place during Geo Week in Denver, Colorado, on February 14, 2023. Additional information on the awards can be found here.

“We are thrilled to honor distinguished professionals and organizations for their achievements in the geospatial arena,” said Lee Corkhill, Group Director at Diversified Communications, organizer of the event. “The impact these individuals are making on the industry is profound, and we are thrilled that the Geo Week Awards ceremony puts a spotlight on their accomplishments.”

LIDAR Leader Awards, in its fourth iteration in partnership with LIDAR Magazine, is seeking nominations in five distinct categories:

  • Outstanding Personal Achievement in LIDAR
  • Outstanding Enterprise Achievement in LIDAR
  • Outstanding Team Achievement in LIDAR
  • Outstanding Innovation in LIDAR
  • Outstanding University Achievement in LIDAR

Spatial Media’s LIDAR Magazine will assist the program by encouraging nominations and publishing pre- and post-event show analyses of finalists. Managing Editing, Dr. Stewart Walker, will assemble a distinguished panel that will review and judge submissions.

The recipients of the 2022 LIDAR Leader Awards included Dr. Ezra Che, Oregon State University; Sean Vaughn, Coin Lee, and Dr. Jennifer Corcoran, 3D Geomatics Committee of the Minnesota Geospatial Advisory Council; Augmented Lidar Box from Outsight; Hovermap from Emesent; and Dr. Martin Isenburg, who was awarded the Outstanding Personal Achievement in LIDAR Award posthumously.

Dr. Walker remarked: “We launched the LIDAR Leader Awards in 2017. We are absolutely delighted that these awards have become part of the Geo Week tradition and have earned a place in the hearts of the lidar community. The Younger Geospatial Professional of the Year Award, in partnership with Lidar News, recognizes outstanding accomplishments and leadership by an exceptional member of the worldwide, geospatial community, 35 years of age or younger. Nominations are accepted in the form of a short video explaining how nominees encourage others to pursue excellence and leadership in their geospatial careers, and an overview of a 10-minutes presentation that, if chosen, would be presented at Geo Week.

Nominees are given suggested topics, including:

  • The challenge of advancing your career during a pandemic
  • Innovative uses of drone lidar
  • What can one person do about sustainability?
  • What will be the next geo-technology game changer?
  • How 3D technology is going to be used in smart cities of the future

The Younger Geospatial Professional of the Year Award is awarded in partnership with Lidar News. Gene Roe, Founder and Managing Editor of Lidar News, remarked, “The Younger Geospatial Professional of the Year Award recognizes the early-stage accomplishments of a YGP and provides that person with an opportunity to demonstrate their professional leadership.”

In addition to the LIDAR Leader Awards and the Younger Geospatial Professional of the Year Award, ASPRS will be presenting its own awards including:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Outstanding Technical Achievement Award
  • Estes Teaching Award
  • The Photogrammetric Fairchild Award
