President Kagame assured Mozambique of continuous military assistance

Rwanda’s President Kagame has assured Mozambique of continuous military assistance.

The President of the Republic Paul Kagame has assured Mozambique that Rwanda will continue to help Mozambique to build its military capacity in order to fight terrorism and to strive for lasting peace in the Province of Cabo Delgado located in the North of the country.

President Kagame made the promise during the meeting with the President of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, at a meeting held last weekend in Addis Ababa, where the 36th Summit of Heads of State of the African Union (AU) was held.

After returning to his country President Nyusi on Sunday, February 19, emphasized that while the Mozambican Security Forces continue to build their capacity to fight terrorism and maintain peace in a sustainable manner, the Rwandan Security Forces will remain in Cabo Delgado Province.

He said that this was one of the topics he discussed with President Kagame.

The program aims to ensure that when the Rwandan security forces complete their mission in that country, the Mozambican security forces will have the full capacity to deal with all the security challenges the country is facing.

While the capacity is still being built, the Heads of the two countries decided that the security agencies of Rwanda and Mozambique will continue to cooperate in fighting terrorism and other problems that threaten the security and sovereignty of Mozambique.

President Nyusi continued: “Rwanda is committed to continuing to support Mozambique, and we have confirmed that we are going to intensify our fight against terrorism. We will fight because terrorism is our main problem.

President Kagame has decided that Rwanda will continue to support the journey to build lasting peace in Mozambique, while for the first time these brave actions have received international support from the European Union (EU).
