President Kagame receives Burundian Envoys with special message from Ndayishimiye
KIGALI: President Paul Kagame received in his office, the Minister in charge of the East African Community, Youth, Culture, and Sports in Burundi, Amb. Ezéchiel Nibigira who arrived in Rwanda for an official visit.
The Office of the Rwanda’s President announced that Minister Amb Nibigira and his team were received by President Kagame on the evening of this Sunday, March 5, 2023.
Not much has been announced about the visit of the Burundian envoys to Rwanda, but they conveyed to President Kagame the message of President Évariste Ndayishimiye.
Receiving the Burundian delegation, President Kagame was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Vincent Biruta and the Director of Military Intelligence in the Rwandan Army, RDF, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi.
President Ndayishimiye is currently the head of the East African Community which includes the countries of Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and South Sudan.
President Ndayishimiye sent to President Kagame a delegation led by Amb. Ezéchiel Nibigira while insecurity continues to worsen in the region especially in Eastern DRC.
It was at the beginning of last month that President Kagame visited Burundi where he participated in the EAC Summit.
Although the President of the Republic went to Burundi for the purpose of finding a solution to the problems of insecurity in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, after a meeting with his colleagues, he had the opportunity to talk with President Ndayishimiye about relations between Rwanda and Burundi.
The event is considered a major step taken by the heads of the two countries after the bad relations between Rwanda and Burundi during the reign of Pierre Nkurunziza.
Burundi accused Rwanda of supporting those who oppose the government of this country, while it said that the leaders of this neighboring country are working with the FDLR group, which is dominated by those who participated in the Genocide against the Tutsis in 1994.
Since President Ndayishimiye came to power, he has expressed his willingness to reconcile with Rwanda and at different times the Heads of both countries have been sending delegations to each other.
At that time, the Spokesperson of the Government of Rwanda, Alain Mukuralinda, told IGIHE that President Kagame would not go to Burundi if relations were not going well.
He said “But the relationship between Rwanda and Burundi is good and the Minister of Foreign Affairs has recently explained it, if there are any remaining issues It will be discussed and addressed.”
