The individuals, identified as Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Alsu Kurmasheva, and Vladimir Kara-Murza, are finally coming home after enduring unimaginable suffering and uncertainty.
The deal that secured their freedom was described as a feat of diplomacy, with the United States working closely with allies such as Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, and Turkey throughout tough and complex negotiations. In total, 16 people were released from Russia, including political prisoners from various nationalities.
