By Ange de la Victoire DUSABEMUNGU
On September 6, 2024, at the Don Bosco Muhazi Technical and Vocational Education Training School, a certificate award ceremony was held for approximately 84 students who had successfully completed a two-month training program as part of the ACTEC project at Don Bosco Muhazi School.
This event brought together various individuals, including the Provincial Economer, Father Servilien UFITAMAHORO, Father Murindagabo Frédéric, Director of Don Bosco Muhazi and Provincial Vicar, parents, students, and youth from different regions.
The meticulously organized ceremony allowed the trained students to demonstrate their knowledge acquisition, which was reflected in the quality of their explanations. The success of the students brought joy to all participants.
In his speech, Father Frédéric Murindangabo expressed gratitude to the donors who made this training possible, while promising continued cooperation with the ACTEC project to promote youth development.
The event also highlighted other positive aspects, including the achievements of single mothers under the Gender Matters for Green TVET project.
Since 2022, thanks to the ACTEC project, Don Bosco Muhazi Technical and Vocational Training School has been offering free training in various subjects to help young people acquire additional skills for the job market.
Initially, 19 people, including 4 boys and 15 girls, received training in bakery and pastry. The following year, 50 people, including 27 boys and 23 girls, were trained in Bakery and Pastry, ICT, and Welding.
Today, on September 6, 2024, another group of 84 people, with 48 girls and 36 boys, trained in Bakery and Pastry, ICT, Welding, Plumbing, and Electricity, received their certificates after completing the two-month free training.
In total, 153 people, including 86 women and 67 men, have benefited from this initiative since 2022.
The beneficiaries include former students of Don Bosco Muhazi and other community members to ensure equal access to quality and inclusive education.
In addition to the significant support provided by the ACTEC project, the success of the training program is also attributed to the support of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Don Bosco College Zwijnaarde in Belgium, and Mrs. Thérèse Watripont, who actively work towards improving vulnerable youth at Don Bosco Muhazi School.
Located in the Gikomero sector in Gasabo district, Don Bosco Muhazi, a Salesian school, provides vocational education to young people, especially those from poor families.
Since the introduction of the ACTEC project, significant improvements have been made to the school’s infrastructure, technological resources, and educational materials, thus enhancing the overall quality of education provided to students.
