President Kagame Calls for Increased Investment in Africa’s Food Systems

During his remarks at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali on September 6, 2024, President Paul Kagame emphasized the importance of investing in agriculture and agribusiness to boost productivity and improve livelihoods across the continent.

President Kagame highlighted the significant role that agriculture plays in the African economy, noting that the production of food is not only essential for sustenance but also serves as the foundation of many African economies. He commended the progress that has been made in recent years to make food systems more resilient and productive but stressed that there is still room for growth and improvement.

The President pointed out that higher productivity in agriculture leads to lower food prices for consumers, which in turn has a direct impact on poverty and inflation levels. He called for increased investment in digital and technology applications in agriculture, as well as attracting more private investment into the sector to accelerate progress.

President Kagame expressed Rwanda’s pride in hosting the Africa Food Systems Forum and commended the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) for its leadership in advancing the food systems agenda. He thanked the partners, sponsors, experts, scientists, and entrepreneurs who contributed to the success of the forum and wished all attendees a pleasant stay in Rwanda.

As the forum came to a close, President Kagame’s remarks served as a rallying call for increased investment and innovation in Africa’s food systems to ensure sustainable development and economic growth across the continent.
