Rwanda And Togo Scrap Visas To Their Nationals

Rwanda and Togolese Foreign Affairs Ministers on Friday signed a visa exemption agreement making it much easier for their nationals to enter their countries without visa requirements.

Olivier Nduhungirehe the Foreign Affairs Minister of Rwanda is currently in Lome to attend a high-level AU summit on the situation in the Great lakes Region.

The agreement signed is a visa exemption for holders of all categories of passports according to the Ministers of the two countries.

Olivier Nduhungirehe is representing Rwanda at the Summit which is exploring the coherence and Consolidation of the Peace Process in DR Congo and the Great Lakes Region.

The summit is being held as tense military confrontation is ongoing in DRC’s Kivu provinces (North and south) which are largely controlled by the battle hardened AFC/M23 rebels.

Kinshasa accuses Kigali of meddling in it’s internal affairs through supporting the rebels of which Rwanda has denied.

Rwanda in turn accuses the Kinshasa government of providing protection and working together with the FDLR militia group composed of perpetrators of the 1994 genocide against ethnic Tutsi in Rwanda which claimed over a million lives.

Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe is the AU mediator in the crisis, particularly between Rwanda and DRCongo.
