Moritz Kretschy Triumphs in Kigali to Claim 2026 Tour du Rwanda Title

KIGALI, Rwanda — Germany’s Moritz Kretschy of the Israel-Premier Tech Academy secured the most prestigious victory of his young career today, officially clinching the 2026 Tour du Rwanda yellow jersey as the race reached its dramatic conclusion in the nation’s capital.

The final stage, a grueling 75-kilometer circuit through the heart of Kigali, was won by Eritrea’s Henok Mulubrhan, who delivered a powerful sprint to take the stage honors and ignite celebrations among the massive crowds lining the streets.

Kretschy’s path to the title was defined by tactical discipline and defensive riding following his strong performances earlier in the week.

He successfully fended off late challenges from the Soudal-QuickStep Devo team, including Stage 7 winner Henrique Bravo, to maintain his lead in the general classification.

The victory marks a significant milestone for the NSN Development project, which dominated much of the tour through the multiple stage wins of Itamar Einhorn and Pau Martí.

The eight-day race, while a sporting triumph for Kretschy and his team, was also a period of reflection for the cycling community following a tragic opening day.

Organizers and fans held moments of silence during the week for the two spectators killed during a Stage 1 caravan accident, an event that cast a somber shadow over the early kilometers of the competition.
