President Biden Commends Extension of Humanitarian Pause, Celebrates Release of 50 Hostages in Gaza

In a statement released by the White House, President Joe Biden expressed his commitment to ensuring the success of the deal brokered and sustained through extensive U.S. mediation and diplomacy, which has led to the release of more than 50 hostages in Gaza. The President emphasized the importance of continuing to deliver results for those affected by the conflict.

Among those released were young children, mothers, and grandmothers, including a four-year-old American girl named Abigail. Abigail had been held captive since October 7th, after witnessing her parents being killed in front of her and being taken hostage by Hamas terrorists. President Biden personally spoke with Abigail’s family following her release and assured them that the United States would work closely with Israeli partners to provide the care and support she needs to recover from the unimaginable trauma she endured.

The humanitarian pause, which has been extended for an additional 48 hours, has not only facilitated the release of hostages but also allowed for an increase in humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians suffering across the Gaza strip. The United States, as the largest funder of humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people, has taken a leading role in providing this much-needed support.

President Biden expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar, and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt for their commitment to the peace process and their role in extending the humanitarian pause. He reiterated his determination to continue working until all hostages held by Hamas terrorists are released.

As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, President Biden affirmed his administration’s ongoing efforts to build a future of peace and dignity for the Palestinian people. The United States remains dedicated to leveraging its resources and diplomatic relations to bring about a lasting resolution to the conflict.

The extension of the humanitarian pause and the release of hostages serve as a glimmer of hope amidst the ongoing crisis in Gaza. As President Biden works towards a peaceful future, the international community looks on with anticipation, hoping for a resolution that will bring lasting peace to the region.
