Mohamed Salah’s Future at Liverpool in Doubt as Contract Talks Stall

Mohamed Salah, the 32-year-old winger for Liverpool, has revealed that he is “far away” from signing a new contract with the club, despite being out of contract at the end of the season. From January 1, he can negotiate with foreign clubs about a free transfer once his deal expires. After scoring his 20th goal of the season in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, which extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points, Salah emphasized that his focus is solely on winning the league with Liverpool. “The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that,” he said, adding that the team must remain “focused and humble.”

Salah, along with captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will be free to sign pre-contract agreements with non-English clubs starting in January. However, Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed confidence in his control over the players’ on-field contributions, stating, “If they’re on a training pitch, if they’re in a meeting with me… I have control to a certain extent.”

Earlier in the season, Salah voiced his disappointment over the lack of a new contract offer, and after Liverpool’s victory over Manchester City, he hinted that the match might have been his last against Guardiola’s side. Despite this uncertainty, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy remains optimistic that Salah will stay, suggesting that negotiations may just be taking time due to the financial complexities involved.

Salah has been a crucial figure for Liverpool, already registering 30 goal involvements (17 goals, 13 assists) in just 18 Premier League games this season, the fastest ever to reach such a tally. He has scored 20+ goals in each of his eight seasons at the club, cementing his legacy as one of Liverpool’s most important players.
