Salah’s Double Fires Liverpool Nine Points Clear at the Top

Liverpool widened their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points after Mohamed Salah’s two goals secured victory against a determined Bournemouth at a lively Vitality Stadium.
Salah, now with 178 league goals, has moved up to sixth in the Premier League’s all-time scoring list, surpassing Frank Lampard, who had 177.

The Egyptian forward opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a well-taken penalty, awarded after Lewis Cook was deemed to have tripped Cody Gakpo.
Bournemouth, having already defeated Arsenal, Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest this season, nearly took the lead when Antoine Semenyo’s shot struck the left post while the game was still goalless.
Semenyo had another opportunity to equalize early in the second half, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson produced a brilliant save with his legs to deny him. The home side continued to create chances, with substitute Marcus Tavernier hitting the inside of the post before Justin Kluivert squandered the rebound by firing over the bar.
Failing to capitalize on those chances proved costly for Bournemouth, as Salah, whose contract expires at the end of the season, secured Liverpool’s win with a stunning curled strike, making it 2-0.
With this victory, Liverpool now sits at 56 points from 23 matches. However, Arsenal can narrow the gap to six points if they defeat Manchester City at home on Sunday.
