Rwanda Backs Stronger SADC Unity to Drive Peace, Stability and Shared Prosperity
Rwanda has deepened cooperation with Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, with Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe calling for stronger regional unity to drive peace, stability and shared prosperity across Africa.
Nduhungirehe made the remarks on Saturday evening as he joined representatives of SADC member states accredited to Rwanda in celebrating SADC Day, an occasion that highlights the importance of regional solidarity, integration and cooperation.
The Minister said Rwanda is ready to continue nurturing its relations with SADC countries while expanding areas of cooperation that serve the shared interests of the region and contribute to sustainable peace and development.
He underscored the importance of strong partnerships among African countries, particularly at a time when regional challenges increasingly require collective responses and coordinated action.
For Rwanda, stronger relations with SADC countries provide an opportunity to deepen diplomatic engagement and build practical cooperation in areas that can contribute to the continent’s stability and economic transformation.
The SADC region brings together countries with strong historical, political, economic and people-to-people ties. Strengthening cooperation within and beyond the regional bloc is considered important in advancing Africa’s broader integration agenda.
During the SADC Day celebrations, representatives of member states in Rwanda joined in highlighting the value of unity and cooperation in addressing challenges facing the continent.
Nduhungirehe’s message reflected Rwanda’s continued emphasis on constructive regional partnerships and dialogue as important tools for promoting peace and stability. He stressed the country’s readiness to work with its partners in pursuing common objectives and creating conditions for sustainable development.
Beyond diplomacy, closer cooperation among African countries can open greater opportunities for trade, investment, knowledge exchange and joint development initiatives. Stronger regional ties can also enhance the continent’s ability to respond collectively to emerging political, economic and security challenges.
The celebration therefore served not only as a commemoration of SADC Day, but also as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of African solidarity at a time when regional and continental cooperation remains critical.
Rwanda’s commitment to deeper engagement with SADC countries comes as African nations continue efforts to build stronger regional institutions and partnerships capable of supporting long-term peace and prosperity.
Through continued diplomatic engagement and cooperation, Rwanda says it will work with SADC partners to advance shared interests and contribute to a more peaceful, stable and prosperous Africa.
