Muhoozi Demands Gashumba Apologize to Christians as Clergy Feud Escalates

Muhoozi Demands Gashumba Apologize for his attacks on pastors who claim miraculous healing powers.

In a brief statement posted on Saturday, the PLU chairman said Gashumba will apologize to Christians in the country. Moreover, he stressed that the Patriotic League of Uganda has no problem with pastors in Uganda.

The intervention comes after weeks of escalating public exchanges. Additionally, Gashumba challenged self-styled prophets, apostles and pastors to demonstrate their claimed abilities.

He offered first Shs 200 million to any religious leader who would accompany him to the intensive care units of Mulago, Nsambya or other major hospitals. Additionally, he offered Shs 500 million to the same leaders to heal a critically ill patient.

Gashumba has repeatedly argued that many preachers exploit the poor. They stage miracles, demand heavy tithes and promise cures for cancer, HIV and other conditions while failing to visit wards.

He has insisted he is not attacking Christianity itself.

I have never said that God does not exist.

Nevertheless, ‘Or that Jesus does not work,’ he stated in one radio appearance.

I simply condemned these fake prophets, pastors and apostles who successfully use the name of Jesus to rob the poor.

Gashumba, who describes himself as Catholic, claims one trained Catholic priest is worth more than a thousand evangelical pastors.

He cites the long formal training required for ordination.

He has used sharp language, calling some preachers “crooks” and “thugs”.

He also employs the Luganda term “miyaayu” (wild cats) to describe those he accuses of manipulating followers.

Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Cathedral rejected the criticism. During a service, he warned of serious consequences. He said Gashumba ridiculed the blood of Jesus, and that ‘your own blood will kill you’. His remarks followed a public dispute over healing claims.

Moreover, others defended their ministries. They argued that fraudulent claims should not discredit all reports of divine healing. The discussion continued amid public debates. Church leaders emphasized accountability and discernment, while supporters urged careful verification. The tone remained formal, though the topic was contentious.

At the same time, several Christians and one other cleric backed Gashumba’s call for verification. They said the challenge highlights real concerns about financial exploitation in some churches. This stance reflected a divide within the faith community. Raising questions about leadership and stewardship.

Gashumba’s daughter Sheila has entered the debate. She maintains her father questioned staged stunts and aggressive fundraising, rather than God or genuine miracles. Supporters view her comments as a clarifying voice in a heated discussion. The family has stayed publicly involved.

Gashumba’s relationship with Muhoozi and PLU has been turbulent. He previously served as the organization’s vice chairman for Buganda. He was removed in a June leadership reshuffle after an older video resurfaced.

Muhoozi said Gashumba would face the PLU Central Committee over the remarks. Additionally, he described him as a close friend who remained under protection. He indicated that private discussions would continue.

In September, intermediaries suggested Muhoozi was open to bringing Gashumba back into the mainstream of the organization.

Saturday’s statement signals the PLU intends to distance itself from Gashumba’s confrontation with pastors. Religion remains a potent social and political force in Uganda, shaping public reaction.

Moreover, Muhoozi Demands Gashumba Apologize is how some outlets summarize his directive. The army chief’s brief post has already triggered hundreds of replies.

Additionally, as of Saturday afternoon, Gashumba had not publicly responded to Muhoozi’s directive.
