Rwanda-Uganda rehabilitated Border nears Completion

The closed border between Uganda and Rwanda which is being rehabilitated will be completed soon, TOPAFRICANEWS reports.

Rwanda’s unilateral decision to close its busiest border crossing with Uganda at the end of February has disrupted trade and laid bare simmering tensions between the two East African nations.

However, Rwanda said the tension between the two sister countries is not originating from closing the border.

Officials said the border was closed for rehabilitation works which are at the last stage.

Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure has announced that the progress of the construction works currently stands at 88%.

This was announced as the State Minister in Charge of Transport, Henri J. Uwihanganye toured different parts urged the contractor to speed up and complete works in due time.

In a Tweet, Rwanda’s State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungire said “The construction works at Gatuna One Stop Border Post (OSBP) between Uganda and Rwanda are at 88% and will soon be completed. The OSBP will then be fully operational.”
