EU to Foster Peace and Development in East Africa

Addis Ababa, May 6 (Prensa Latina) Fulgencio Garrido, European Union (EU) charge d’affaires in Somalia, said that the political community will hold a conference to foster peace and development in East Africa, reveals an official statement on Monday.

The regional economic meeting will be jointly organized by the World Bank and the Ethiopian government and will be held in Addis Ababa in July, said Garrido in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, during the Europe Day celebrations.

According to the government communication released in Addis Ababa, the conference will contribute to the strengthening of relations between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia, thus paving the way for the establishment of even greater cooperation in which the other 15 countries of the subregion participate.

Subregional infrastructure in the transport sector, the increase of financial services and the development of human capital through the improvement of educational systems will be some of the main issues of the event.

Known as Eastern Africa or East Africa, this area, according to the division determined by the United Nations, is also composed of Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Southern Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
