Capital Market University challenge: CMA expects more young investors

Rwanda’s Capital Market Authority has launched a campaign known as Capital Market University challenge (CMUC) with aim to create awareness among youth in universities and high learning institutions about capital market opportunities. For the 7th edition of this competition which was launched on 31st January 2020 at IPRC Musanze, a big number of students from different universities based in Musanze district responded massively to the launching event and this is one of signs of possible appetite of young investors in capital market.

Mr. Migisha Magnifique who was representing CMA in this ceremony revealed that they are expecting a big number of young people who will join the Capital market based on the fact that this year they are targeting to reach more than 4000 students across the country.

”In the past, we had a target of around 1000 students only, but this year we are targeting more than 4000 students who will participate in the competition. So we are expecting a big number of people who will invest in the capital market through this campaign.” Said Migisha.

Sharing his testimony about where he reaches now, Theogene Kubahoniyesu, the winner in last edition, said that investing in capital market makes him confident wherever he goes. Recalling on the way he bought shares in Bank of Kigali, Kubahoniyesu revealed that he always feel proud to enter in this bank with confidence as he surely knows he is among its shareholders. He concluded by encouraging all students to invest in capital market as a way of saving for their future

“And as I conclude, I would like to remind you that If you don’t save for tomorrow someone else will save for you and you will pay for it. Better save today.” Mr Kubahoniyesu concludes his testimony.

This year’s competition will see students registering individually or as clubs. Individuals will perform essay category while clubs will perform quiz category.

Awarding ceremony is scheduled on the 3rd April 2020 in Kigali where the top 3 in each category will be awarded.
