Musanze: Leaders convene to find solutions to child abuse and Child labour challenges

 

A high-level meeting was held on Friday, October 09, 2020 in Musanze District, Northern Province to discuss the issue of child  abuse and Child labour as well as finding to find  together the concrete solutions to those problems.

The meeting is part of ‘It Takes Every Rwanda’ Campaign to ensure children are prevented from child labor and child abuse.

It was organized in collaboration with the Northern Province, World Vision Rwanda and the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU).

The meeting which was chaired by the Governor of the Northern Province, Gatabazi Jean Marie Vianney, was attended by the Northern Province’s Districts officials, the Chiefs of Police and the Rwanda Investigation Bureau at the Provincial and District levels, the Executive Secretary of the Northern Province, the Director of Governance and Social Welfare at the Provincial level and the in charge of Economic Development at the District level.

The meeting aims to share information on child sexual abuse and child labour in the Northern Province and to take measures that will make the Province at the forefront of preventing and combating these crimes.

Via his Twitter account, the Northern Province Governor Gatabazi said, “In our decisions, plans that we make every day as Leaders we must keep in mind the Children of Rwanda and protect them from child labour (In mines, Tea plantations, Sugarcane plantations, Heavy loads transportation), Sexual abuse which leads to early Pregnancies”

The issue of teenage pregnancies has been repeated for days by various NGOs, whether public or private.

This issue, of course, is one of the main concerns of the Government, which is why it has been raised to eradicate it completely.
