Lt. General Muhoozi announces his return to Kigali

President Museveni’s son who was in Rwanda in January 2022 revealed that he is returning to Rwanda in the coming days.

In his tweet posted today (February 28, 2022), this Uganda’s Commander of Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces said that his return is related to long discussion he did with President Paul Kagame in today’s morning which resulted to agreement of returning to Kigali.

The tweet says “After a long discussion with my uncle, President Kagame, this morning we have agreed that I return to Kigali in the coming days to sort out all outstanding issues between Uganda and Rwanda.”

With his last visit to Rwanda, Lt. General Muhoozi returned home with a Ugandan Special Forces (SFC) soldier who had been held by Rwanda.

On January 28, following this visit, the Government of Rwanda has announced the reopening of Gatuna border on January 31, 2022, after that it has taken note that there is a process to solve issues raised by Rwanda, as well as commitments made by the Government of Uganda to address remaining obstacles.

The relations between Rwanda and Uganda were strained following a number of grievances by the former which the latter had failed to address.

These included hosting groups which use Uganda as a base to plan activities to destabilise Rwanda and enjoy support from some Ugandan public institutions.

Others include the arbitrary arrest, abduction, torture and illegal detention of Rwandans by Ugandan security forces, among others.
