U.S. Chamber of Commerce to Lead Business Delegation to East Africa

Scott Eisner, President of the Center discussed U.S.-Africa policy and development with Bill Gates on the margins of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's "The Need for U.S. Leadership" conversation.

From between March 28 and April 1, 2023, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center will bring nearly 30 business executives to Kenya and Tanzania in its first international trade mission this year.

The business delegation builds on the historic dialogue that transpired during the U.S.-Africa Business Forum, and leverages the participation of public- and private-sector leaders from the U.S. and across the continent that are participating in the AmCham Business Summit in Nairobi, including U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, Kenyan President William Ruto (TBC), U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania Michael Battle, Kenyan and Tanzanian ministers and cabinet secretaries, and leaders from Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda.

According to Scott Eisner, President of the U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Africa Business Center: “The role of U.S. private industry will be pivotal as the U.S. deepens its commercial relationship with Africa, set to be home to one in three of the world’s consumers by the end of the century. This important business delegation will advance U.S. commercial priorities, garner attention for investments, and showcase American business as Africa’s partner of choice while the continent undergoes transformative growth, seismic technological shifts, and turbocharged market integration.

“East Africa in particular is at the forefront of world-class digital innovation, paved in no small part by business-friendly reforms. No surprise that Kenya, which ranks first in the use of digital payments across Africa, is part of an entrepreneurial revolution that could turn East Africa into one of the next global tech hubs. The Chamber looks forward to its engagement with the Kenyan government during this delegation trip and future trips as the newly launched U.S.-Kenya Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership talks get underway.” He added
