Secretary of State Blinken Condemns Attack on Political Leaders in DRC, Offers U.S. Support
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken has spoken out against the recent attack on political leaders and institutions in Gombe, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), during a phone call with President Félix Tshisekedi.
In the call, Secretary Blinken condemned the violence and offered U.S. support for the government’s investigation into the attack. The two leaders also discussed the ongoing crisis in eastern DRC and the need for additional measures to restore peace and stability, including support for the Luanda Process.
The conversation also touched on the dire humanitarian situation in eastern DRC, with a focus on addressing reports of sexual exploitation of vulnerable persons around Goma. Both Secretary Blinken and President Tshisekedi emphasized the importance of taking action to protect those at risk and provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the conflict.
The United States remains committed to working with the government of the DRC and international partners to help bring an end to the violence and instability in the region.
