Esther’s Aid’s Culinary Arts Department Shines in Final Practical Exam
On Wednesday, 25th September, 2024, the Culinary Arts Department at Esther’s Aid School held their final Practical Exam, showcasing the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout their studies. The event drew a crowd of school administration, chefs from various hotels in Rwanda, and members of the Private Sector, all-eager to witness the talent of the students.
A total of 51 students participated, with 11 being boys and 40 being girls.
Chef David Muthurid from the Manor Hotel expressed his enthusiasm for the students, stating, “Today’s event was a great one. I love the team and the support they are getting from Esther’s Aid. It is one of the best in Rwanda and these students will do better at workplaces.” He also mentioned that they will continue to support and train the students whenever they visit their hotels.
Chef Claude Bigayimpunzi from the Rwanda Chef Alliance was equally impressed, saying, “The future looks very good. I’m very excited for what I’ve seen and very excited about the upcoming Chefs and long life to Esther’s Aid.”
Representing Mama Claire Effiong who is the Director and Founder of Esther’s Aid School, Keelin Vernon, the Director of Communications at Esther’s Aid shared, “We’ve had an amazing day. She is doing amazing work and continues to work so hard for all the young people who need our help here in Rwanda.”

“The event was truly amazing. Our students have demonstrated that the training we provide will have a significant impact not only on their own lives, but also on the entire industry,” she added.
Ms. Josephine Mukansinzi from Arts Rwanda commended the students on their confidence and teamwork, stating, “I love the way the chefs were asking the questions and the children were so smart and confident. Thank you so much Esther’s Aid. You’re doing a great job. God bless you.”
The students themselves were filled with a mix of nervousness and excitement as they completed their final exam.
Vincent Nsengiyumva expressed gratitude towards their school staff and the guest chefs who provided guidance during their internship. Diane Umuhoza and Elyse Iraguha also shared their appreciation for the education and support they have received at Esther’s Aid.

Overall, the event was a resounding success, with Chef Denyse Irakoze from ParkInn by Radisson Hotel remarking, “I was impressed with the students. The presentation was very nice. I would like to congratulate everyone and wish you all the best in the next coming year.”
The students at Esther’s Aid School have clearly demonstrated their potential to become successful chefs in the future, thanks to the support and guidance they have received from their school and industry professionals. The future looks bright for these talented individuals as they embark on their culinary careers.
