New Survey Highlights Importance of Pandemic Preparedness and Public Understanding of Vaccine Science
The 2024 State of Infectious Disease Preparedness Survey, conducted by Champions for Vaccine Education, Equity and Progress (CVEEP), highlights public sentiment on pandemic preparedness, emphasizing the importance of vaccine access, R&D, and public education in vaccine science. Survey findings indicate a strong belief among consumers (83%) and pharmacists (93%) that vaccines are vital for future public health, with 90% of both groups supporting collaboration across sectors to enhance pandemic readiness.
The public shows a keen interest in understanding vaccine science, with 90% of consumers and pharmacists agreeing that improving general knowledge of infectious diseases would better prepare the public for future health crises. Additionally, 90% of consumers prefer having choices about COVID-19 vaccines.
Notably, distrust in health information remains an issue, especially in rural areas, where 50% express skepticism. Furthermore, three out of four Americans and pharmacists believe another global pandemic is likely in their lifetime, and over half of consumers anticipate it could occur within the next six years.
This survey, conducted by Ipsos, included a representative U.S. adult population and 150 pharmacists, underscoring a national call for comprehensive pandemic preparedness and clear, credible health communication.
