Darwin Nunez Strikes Twice Late to Secure Vital Liverpool Win at Brentford

Darwin Nunez celebrates against Brentford
Darwin NĂșñez came off the bench to score a late brace, securing Liverpool’s victory over Brentford and extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points.
Liverpool appeared set for a third consecutive league game without a win in 2025 until NĂșñez made his mark in stoppage time. The Uruguayan forward netted the opener in the 91st minute with a straightforward close-range finish from Trent Alexander-Arnoldâs low cross.
Just two minutes later, NĂșñez struck again, calmly navigating a crowded box to finish a counter-attack as Brentfordâs defence faltered.
While it took until stoppage time to find the breakthrough, Liverpool dominated possession and territory throughout the match, fully earning their three points. Dominik Szoboszlai hit the crossbar in the first half, and Luis DĂaz missed a golden opportunity with an unmarked header at the far post.
Brentford opted to sit deep and absorb pressure but struggled to create meaningful chances on the counter, leaving striker Bryan Mbeumo isolated.
As the game wore on, Liverpool controlled the tempo while Brentford retreated further defensively. Despite a lack of finishing touch reminiscent of their early-season form, NĂșñezâs clinical late strikes ensured Liverpoolâs triumph.
