Rwanda: Journalist Uwineza Liliane Arrested for Broadcasting Divisive Content on YouTube

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau has detained journalist Uwineza Liliane following her YouTube Content that could incite division.
RIB spokesperson, Dr. Murangira B. Thierry, confirmed to local Media that the journalist is indeed in custody as an investigation is ongoing against her.
Dr. Murangira stated, “It is true that Uwineza Liliane was arrested, and detained.”
He mentioned that RIB had been monitoring Uwineza Liliane’s YouTube channel for some time and noticed content that seemed to be leading to criminal activities. They advised her to be cautious about the words she used in her videos.
Media reports say that despite being warned and advised previously, by the Rwanda Media Commission, a Media Self-Reguratory body, Uwineza Liliane continued to broadcast discussions containing statements that could potentially cause division among the public. RIB summoned her again, but she refused to appear, leading to her arrest.
The investigation will continue while Uwineza Liliane remains in custody, and a decision will be made based on the findings.
