Cardinal Kambanda Emphasizes the Importance of Quality Education During Visit to Ntare Louisenlund School

On September 27, 2025, Antoine Cardinal Kambanda, President of the Episcopal Conference of Rwanda, visited Ntare Louisenlund International School in Musagara Village, Nyamata Sector, Bugesera District. During his visit, he reminded parents that the most valuable legacy they can leave their children is a good education.

Cardinal Kambanda toured various parts of the school, engaging with students and their parents to discuss the importance of education. He expressed appreciation for the Rwandan government’s ongoing investments in the education sector, including the establishment of international institutions in the country, which provide Rwandan children with access to quality and equitable education.

He praised the school’s students, noting that they are talented, disciplined, and respectful. The Cardinal emphasized to parents that offering a strong education is the greatest gift they can give to their children. “The best legacy you can leave to a child is education. It provides a foundation for life, enabling your child to become a doctor, engineer, or any professional who will contribute to the country’s development and beyond,” he said.

As a member of the Catholic World Education Forum, Cardinal Kambanda underscored the vital role of education in personal development. He explained that while knowledge equips individuals to perform various tasks, nurturing the heart and character is equally important for making good use of that knowledge.

Damien Vassallo, Principal of Ntare Louisenlund School, stated that the visit reinforced the school’s core principle—that education should go beyond academics to support the holistic development of the child. “This visit highlights that our mission is not only to impart knowledge but also to nurture students’ mental, emotional, and spiritual growth, equipping them for life,” he said.

Ntare Louisenlund School was conceived in 2019 by the NSOBA consortium, comprised of alumni of Ntare School in Uganda, led by President Paul Kagame and Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The project began with an inaugural class of 145 students and aims to expand to accommodate approximately 1,000 students across all grades.

Some of the students at the school are sponsored by the Rwandan government— including top performers from national primary school exams— while others are supported by their families. The school continues to grow as a symbol of Rwanda’s commitment to providing high-quality education for its youth.
