Zamalek Edge APR FC with Late Goal in CAF Champions League
Rwandan champions APR FC suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Egyptian giants Zamalek in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie on Friday night at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The match remained goalless at half-time, with APR controlling possession and creating promising chances against a disciplined Zamalek side. The hosts continued to push after the break but struggled to turn their opportunities into goals.
Zamalek secured the victory in the closing moments when substitute Nasser Mansy scored in the 90th minute, silencing the home crowd and giving the Egyptian side a crucial advantage ahead of the return leg. An earlier Zamalek effort had been ruled out for offside.
The result puts Zamalek in a strong position ahead of the second leg in Cairo on October 24. APR FC will need to overturn the one-goal deficit away from home to keep their hopes of progressing to the group stage alive.
