FDLR ex-combatants arrived in Goma

The FDLR ex-combatants and their dependents, who were stationed at the DDRRR transit camp in Kanyabayonga, arrived in Goma late the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, November 21, under escort of the commander of the 34th military region, TOPAFRICANEWS has learnt.

In total, there are 352 Rwandan subjects, including 66 ex-combatants and hundreds of family members, including women and children.
After more than three years spent in this transit camp, DDRRR from Monusco to Kanyabayonga, these former FDLR combatants were relocated by decision of the Congolese government.

Until then, in Goma, it remains difficult to know their new location.

The spokesman of the 34th military region, Major Ndjike Kaiko, confirms their presence in the city, without further details.

“This [Kanyabayonga] site has been officially closed since September and the occupants, who should be leaving, are already with us here in Goma,” he said.

When asked why their presence in Goma seems to be overshadowed, Major Ndjike Kaiko reacted: “Nothing is hidden. They are in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and I believe, in the hours that follow, I will tell you where they are.

Since the end of 2014, these former FDLR have been stationed in Kanyabayonga.

In Goma, they should wait either for their repatriation to Rwanda or in another asylum environment, according to the provincial governor.

Meanwhile, in Kanyabayonga, the jubilant population, since the departure of these ex-combatants, flocked to the site evacuated on Wednesday morning, to demolish it completely, report the local administrative authorities.
