Canadian Seeks number 2 position to Louise Mushikiwabo in Paris

TOPAFRICANEWS has learnt that there is a wave of change in the Canadian National assembly as well as in Government.

Apart from that also the Quebec general delegate in Paris, Line Beauchamp, announced a few days ago his departure from his position, scheduled for early January 2019, to try his luck at the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF).

In a hurry to find placement for this key position, Prime Minister François Legault is clear:  whoever going to take over he or she must have an economic profile.

In office for two years, former Liberal Minister Line Beauchamp is nominated as a candidate from Quebec City and Ottawa for the coveted position of administrator at the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF).

If she is selected, Ms.Beauchamp will become the number two of the new secretary general of the OIF,the Rwandan Louise Mushikiwabo, whose appointment is scheduled for early 2019.

Quebec is therefore eager to find a replacement for the former Minister of Education. The government wants the new delegate to take office before François Legault’s official visit to Paris, planned ahead of his participation in the Davos economic summit in Switzerland, from 22 to 25January.

Faithful to the image he wishes to give to his government, the newly elected Prime Minister wants to give priority to candidates with an economic profile, in Paris as in all delegations.

Several close friends of François Legault, notably the former president of the Caisse de Dépôt et Placement Henri-Paul Rousseau, Christiane Germain or Jean-François Lépine, are approached in the business community as potential replacements to the current delegate Line.

Although Québec has a dozen delegations and a dozen offices in Europe, Asia and the American continent, only the Paris delegation actually enjoys a real diplomatic status with its host country.

More than all the other delegates, the tenant of the rue de Pergolèse must be in close collaboration with the Prime Minister on all the files. He must also cohabit witht he Canadian ambassador in Paris, a position currently held by Isabelle Hudon.
