Rwanda to host Made-in-Africa Leadership Conference

The Mauritius-based pan-African Leadership Enhancement organization, Breakfast Club Africa (“BCA”) and the Rwanda Convention Bureau (“RCB”) have entered into partnership through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) whereby both stakeholders will host a new Leadership Conference in Rwanda.

Kigali, Rwanda has been designated as the host city for the inaugural “Made-in-Africa Leadership Conference (MLC)”. The two-day conference annual conference will be held in Rwanda on 6-7 June 2019. In future years the conference hosting will rotate to other countries in Africa.

Made-In-Africa Leadership Conference (MLC) is an exclusive annual gathering of African business owners and business leaders, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Managing Directors (MDs) of mid-sized companies ($500,000 to $100,000,000 annual turnover) who will convene in Kigali, Rwanda to learn from each other, inspire each other to greater leadership performance, and network with each other.

The continental conference is the first of its kind as it is organized by African CEOs for African CEOs.

Africa has one of the world’s fastest growing population.

Africa has experienced explosive growth in recent years and is projected to continue to do so in future years. By 2040, Africa is projected to have 1.1 billion people of working age, more than China and India. By 2040, 1 in 5 youth globally will be based on the African continent. This demographic trend portends a great opportunity for economic growth in the continent.

Africa’s ability to harness the incredible opportunity presented by a burgeoning youth population depends on the extent to which Africa’s Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders enhance their leadership capacity and performance.

All of the resources that African CEOs need to grow their businesses can be found in Africa. The market, the suppliers, the expertise, the machinery, the people, and the capital, can all be found in Africa. What is needed is a purposeful forum through which CEOs can meet each other, exchange ideas with each other, learn from each other, challenge each other towards higher growth, and engage in business partnerships with each other.

The X-factor of MLC is the unique focus given to CEOs to enhance their Leadership Capabilities, which inevitably translates into business and economic growth. There is no forum in existence that specifically targets CEOs of African companies for this purpose. MLC will be a catalyst for increased intra-Africa business cooperation and trade and for accelerated growth of African companies.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Breakfast Club Africa, Dr. Modupe Taylor-Pearce, “Rwanda was selected for the inaugural conference because Rwanda works! The country is a shining example of an African country that works and an economy that is growing. Our dialogue with the Government of Rwanda via the Rwanda Convention Bureau informed our decision to hold our first conference in Kigali; we are impressed by the vision and professionalism of the leadership and their collective passion to achieve higher levels of leadership performance.”

MLC is a unique conference which is designed by African CEOs for their peer African CEOs. Top Leadership Coaches of the Continent, who facilitate Breakfast Club Africa meetings with members in countries such as Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Rwanda, will gather in Kigali to support African CEOs.

Dr. Taylor-Pearce, a seasoned Leadership Scholar and Founding Dean of the African Leadership University (ALU) School of Business and a Leadership Coach developed the two-day conference, which is set to enhance growth of African Leaders. He further stated about the conference: “This conference is for CEO’s whose companies are doing well but believe that they can do much better; for CEO’s whose companies have experienced success in one, two, or three African countries and desire for their companies to expand to 5 – 20 countries in Africa. We are excited to have designed a unique conference in which CEOs will learn from each other through our Learning Labs facilitated by Africa’s top professional Leadership Coaches. Intra-Africa Trade and collaboration will be enhanced by the relationships formed as CEOs and Business Leaders work with other business leaders to solve real problems faced by peers in different parts of Africa at the conference. CEO’s who come to the conference will be inspired to lead better and will be equipped to do so with the knowledge they have shared and gained; they will leverage the new relationships they have developed to facilitate the swift and profitable expansion of their companies.”

The Leadership Conference will be brought to Rwanda in partnership with the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) and Breakfast Club Africa’s strategic partner in Rwanda, KORA Coaching & Business Academy. Rwanda Events will be the official Event Manager of Made-in-Africa Leadership Conference (MLC).
